Some people were asking about this site and who is behind it... so here it goes...
Hi,
My name is Eryka Lefrak and I have 3 children in the Palm Beach School System ranging from VPK to 1st grade. I found out about the changes beginning this year over the summer and began doing a lot of research and gathering to figure out how it was going to impact my children, and what if anything could be done. At one point I even considered home school as the solution because I knew the new curriculum was not going to work for my kids.
So you know more... one of my children is in Full Time Gifted, and the other two have special needs to be met in the teaching environment so I fully understand the impact this program is having on children from both perspectives. (Too fast and too slow.)
I design websites for a living so when several parents in my children's classes began asking me about the issues when I would inquire at school meetings I decided to launch this site. I also found the Facebook site that is doing a wonderful job and I have been making sure to include the information being posted there here as well for those not on facebook.
Initially the site was only going to be a compilation of documents and information but then there were so many asking where to e-mail, and to whom, so I created the "BE HEARD" section where you can create your letter and send it out to everyone at once.
You'll notice, as a point of principle I have not included my business information, and even with the e-mails and letters I am posting from parents I am excluding their businesses or websites because I think it is important to make sure this site is about the children, and helping the kids teach them alone... with no other distractions.
As you can see at this point I am several times a day with all of the information I can gather from letters, news articles and videos, events, supplies, and pretty much anything else you as the other parents in this battle need! I am also working from the back end getting the message heard by posting this site on several articles, search engines, facebook, myspace, and by sending direct emails to PTA and SAC members to get the message spread. (Important to note the PTA is not backing this movement OR opposing it... they are not allowed to make public curriculum statements as an organization, though individual members and board chairs are welcome to chime in from a personal front.)
Anyway... if there is something you want to add here, go to this page and let me know! I'll try to keep this site as up to the minute as I can.
Thanks,
Eryka Lefrak
